Garth was raised in the South Island and completed his Commerce degree (Valuation & Property Management) at Lincoln University.  He began his career in 1981 with the Gisborne office of the Valuation Department.After holding several management positions in Valuation NZ offices of Lower Hutt, Wellington and Takapuna, Garth was appointed Managing District Valuer for the Tauranga office of Valuation New Zealand /Quotable Value for the period August 1988 to January 1999.  After a working holiday in England and France with his family in 2000, he returned to New Zealand and resumed work as an Associate with Property Solutions, a Tauranga based property valuation and advisory company.

In 2004 Garth established Landmass Technology with Mark Grinlinton, and in that year was successful in winning the Western Bay of Plenty VSP contract. Garth has considerable valuation experience in the commercial and industrial sector for the large cities (Auckland, Wellington and Lower Hutt) provincial locations (Gisborne, Rotorua, Taupo and Tauranga) and continues to provide a range of valuation advice in specialist areas to several local authorities regarding the sale and acquisition of land and assets.

Garth’s valuation expertise includes property such as national parks, buildings of national historical significance, sea and airport assets and other major urban property. He recently completed a detailed valuation of the hydro and geothermal power generation assets within Taupo District. As the Revaluation Manager, he has overseen the delivery of twenty Local Authority Revaluations using teams of up to nineteen staff. This experience covered the implementation of new quality assurance systems, development of staff peer review systems and the business management issues associated with the district office in a national organisation.
